William Shakespeare
"Hell is empty and all the devils are here."
"Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great,
some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them."
"If music be the food of love, play on."
Regarded as one of the best poets of the English language, William Shakespeare was (arguably) a talented playwright of the sixteenth century. He had written some of the most well-recognized pieces of literature, of which are studied globally to this date, the most well known being the tragedy of two star crossed lovers (Romeo and Juliet) and the tragedy of English thane Macbeth, who loses himself to his dangerously overpowering political ambition.
Richard III, while not studied in the western public education system as commonly as Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet, shares some similarities with Macbeth. Both plays feature what is known as a 'political tyrant' in the place of the main character - an oppressive ruler who often ignores and violates the human rights of their citizens. For instance, Macbeth and Richard III had people close to them killed to prevent being removed from a position of power.
